Dubai Industrial City Completes 40 Per Cent Construction Work of Five Labour Villages across the Township

With investments exceeding AED one billion, two out of the five villages are expected to be operational by end of 2008 with the remainder delivered during the first quarter of 2009.

Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer and the third largest non-real estate project in Dubai, announced today it was on track for the completion of five labour villages that are currently under construction across the region's leading industrial destination.

Rashed Al Ansari, Vice President of Dubai Industrial City pointed out that once completed; all five villages will accommodate a total of 62,500 supervisors and labourers across the dedicated industrial township, offering investors in the city and across Dubai the chance to benefit their employees from higher levels of accommodation service at the newly built villages.

"We are investing more than AED one billion in this project and have so far completed 40 per cent of the construction work across all five villages. Two will be ready by the end of 2008 and the remainder three villages will be operational by the first quarter of 2009. Each village will comprise of 26 residential buildings offering a total bed space to accommodate 12,500 people," he said.

He stressed that all the villages were designed to the highest standard and offer a comprehensive level of accommodation to labourers across Dubai.

"We are not building residential buildings for labourers, we are developing entire villages that offer its residents an easier and pleasant living environment and offer a wide range of services and facilities from entertainment to shopping and basic amenities such as medical, security and civil defence services," Rashed noted.

He stressed that the design of the villages incorporates the latest in design and planning.

"We are constructing a total of 230 buildings across the five villages that offer comprehensive facilities and services. All the buildings are equipped with central air conditioning, and each village features seven restaurants to meet the needs of its residents in addition to sport areas dedicated for football, volley ball, cricket, as well as other supporting facilities such as a supermarket, shops, a mosque, landscaped walkways, post office, dedicated bus parking areas for the transportation of labourers to name but a few," Rashed explained.

He also pointed out that all villages will be uniform in design and layout, offering three types of rooms that vary as per the requirement of companies.

"We are building a flexible accommodation that offers single rooms for supervisors as well as rooms that can accommodate five people and larger ones for eight labourers. The idea is to ensure that we offer them good living standards and facilities that meet their daily needs," Rashed noted.

Located adjacent to the Dubai World Central's Al Maktoum International Airport and in close proximity to Jebel Ali Port and Free Zone, with easy accessibility to major highways such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Emirates Road and the Dubai Ring Road, the 560 million square feet Dubai Industrial City is a dedicated industrial destination comprising six industrial clusters featuring food and beverage, base metal, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts, and machinery and mechanical equipment.
